The theme of the REC Market Meeting 2024 is "Valuing consumer demand." This year's conference offers a varied programme for veterans as well as those new to renewables markets and will take place in a world where renewable energy markets are under more scrutiny than ever before.
The International Tracking Standard Foundation: Founder of I-REC (I-TRACK Foundation) is pleased to announce Instituto Totum as the Co-Hosting Organization for the I-REC Standard Conference (ISC) 2024.
In recognition of the future global need for clearly auditable and reliable tracking information beyond renewable electricity, the organization 'The International REC Standard Foundation' will become the 'International Tracking Standard Foundation: Founder of I-REC' (I-TRACK Foundation).

Certification that meets the RE100 requirement
I-REC standard | Providing Global Acceptance
An increasing number of companies around the world are actively reporting their scope 2 emissions to CDP, RE100 and other organizations. These companies are committed to consume as much as renewable electricity as possible whereas some companies, which are part of RE100, are committed to consume 100% renewables biomass (including biogas), geothermal, solar, hydro, and wind. As such, these companies are in need of a reliable way to prove their renewable consumption. All consumed electricity, except for unmetered electricity generation that is consumed by the end-user before passing through a meter, must be accounted for with a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). This means that regardless of the procurement method (e.g. PPA or Single Delivery), the REC is the cornerstone of all renewable energy usage claims. I-RECs (the type of REC used in Thailand) have been referenced as meeting the RE100 and CDP requirements and provided key quality references for the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 Guidance.
EGAT is able to provide its services to any domain and can also support regulatory authorities in their undertaking of this function. EGAT is a key delivery partner for the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) Standard. The I-REC Standard is at the forefront of the global market for renewable energy products and its formation drew upon our extensive expertise in implementing renewable energy mechanisms in many countries to provide a uniform reporting solution.

RECs and Carbon Offsets are two different instruments. RECs are measured in terms of electricity units and are used to validate the consumption of electricity from renewable sources. On the other hand, Carbon Offsets are measured in units of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and are used to represent the reductions/avoidance of greenhouse gas emissions.
Renewable energy generation facilities that comply with and are registered under internationally recognized standards, such as the I-REC standard, are eligible to be issued RECs for every unit of electricity generated. These RECs and their associated environmental attributes can then be sold by their legal owner to anybody wishing to purchase them. Upon successful purchase, the ownership of these RECs is transferred to their new legal owner - the buyer. By redeeming these RECs under a beneficiary, the claim of renewable energy use may be made without the need to physically consume it.

As the authorized local issuer of I-RECs in Thailand, EGAT ensures all generation facilities that register under the I-REC Standard adhere to its strict requirements.
During the onboarding of a generation facility, EGAT performs thorough verification and due diligence, to ensure the generation facility (i) is not already onboard any other registries, (ii) characteristics is as per claimed, (iii) is commissioned with the utility, and (iv) legal ownership rights are clearly defined, etc.
